David Riddick

David Riddick, Founder, Chief Executive Officer & Executive Artistic DirectorDavid Riddick is the Founder and Executive/Artistic Director of Beauty for Ashes Contemporary School of Dance (BFACSD) and Riddick Dance. He trained extensively under Valeria Sinyavskya from Russia (a pupil of Agrippina Vaganova). David is a teacher in multiple areas of dance technique: Vaganova (Ballet), Graham, Horton, African, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Liturgical. His passion is to train, instruct, and inspire those who aspire to be professional dancers and choreographers. In 2009 David Riddick opened the first African American Contemporary Dance School in the Hampton Roads area. Under his direction, Beauty for Ashes Contemporary School of Dance has served over 475,00 people in the community through performances, workshops, seminars, community events, and festivals for the past 14 years. Through a partnership of BFACSD with the renowned Joffrey Ballet as a host audition site, 14 students have been accepted into Joffrey Ballet locations, including Joffrey New York, Joffrey Texas, Joffrey Italy, and Joffrey California. BFACSD has sent numerous dance students to Virginia Commonwealth University and other colleges and universities.David has achieved milestones when it comes to elevating the school to new levels: BFACSD is part of The International Dance Council in Europe and is the first to have a National Dance Honors Society under the auspices of the National Dance Education Organization (DC).Riddick Dance is the first African American professional dance school and touring company in the City of Hampton. They have performed at The American Theatre in Hampton, VA, Music Greeks in Atlanta GA, The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and other locations throughout the DMV region. This year, Riddick Dance Company is excitedly preparing for residencies and touring in Virginia as well as their first international tour to Germany!
